Press Release

NGO Federation of Nepal (NFN) expresses serious concern about the military coup in Myanmar. We strongly condemn this step of the Myanmar Military and takeover of power by declaring a state of emergency and detaining political leaders and members of parliament including Aung San Suu Kyi and President Win Myint.

Instead of respecting the will of the people, accepting the election results and making way for democratic progress, the military in Myanmar has staged yet another coup which is an assault to democracy and human rights in Myanmar. This is a concern and harm not only to the people of Myanmar but also to global democratic and human rights movement.

NFN strongly appeals to the national and international governments and civil society to stand strongly against the military coup in Myanmar, stand with the people in Myanmar and put pressure to the military government demanding handover of state power to civilian government. We also demand for the unconditional and urgent release of all the political leaders who are detained or under house arrest.
