SAARC cultural centre festival begins

Kathmandu : The SAARC Cultural Festival and Folk Dance has been organized here on Tuesday aimed at strengthening and exchanging cultures among the SAARC member states. 

The programme jointly organized by the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation and the SAARC Cultural Centre, Colombo is expected to expand and harmonize people-to-people relations through the event. The primary objective of the festival is to display the cultural diversity and strengthen cultural harmony of the SAARC member states. 

Culture Minister Rabindra Adhikari while inaugurating the festival shared that the programme is expected to preserve and display the traditional folklore, folk culture and developing internal harmony and peace among the member states. 

The festival is also expected to promote Nepal government's mission of Visit Nepal 2020. The Ministry secretary Krishna Prasad Devkota argued that such festival will further strengthen friendlier ties among the states. 

Similarly, Director at the SAARC Culture Centre DR Naik also said that such events promote culture and strengthen regional ties among the member states. Various programmes including organizing workshops on folk dance and visiting the cultural heritages are also scheduled in the event. 

A total of 45 artists from SAARC member states Nepal, India, Bangladesh, Sri- Lanka and Maldives are attending the programme. 
The festival will run until December 14.
