Navigating Sagarmatha through photographs

Kathmandu : The snapshots captured by the ‘First Women Journalist Sagarmatha Expedition-2018’ team while scaling the world’s highest peak, Mount Everest, are put on exhibition in the town. 

The photo exhibition titled ‘Women on Top’ is taking place at the hall of Nepal Tourism Board since Friday. As part of NTB’s ‘Photo Nepal’ programme, the exhibition was organized on the occasion of Kathmandu International Mountain Film Festival (KIMFF). 

As many as 50 photographs taken during expedition up to the summit (8,848 metres) from the area of Lobuche (4,940 metres) were put on exhibition. 

Several activities of the mountaineers team from popular Khumbu Icefall and base camp have been best navigated through the photographs showcased in the exhibition. 

On Sunday, Prime Minister’s spouse Radhika Shakya had observed the exhibition with much interest and termed the exhibition ‘very wonderful and inspiring’. 

While observing the exhibition, United Nations Nepal Resident Coordinator Valerie Julliand said he was highly impressed by the higher success of women climbers and has ever true respect to the trend-setters. 

The exhibition, coordinated by ‘School of Creative Communications’ with a view to encouraging students and young generation for climbing and trekking, will conclude on coming Tuesday. 

Mountaineering team member journalist Rosha Basnet shared that the photo exhibition was organized to impart a message of the successful ascent to Mount Everest that women also have eminent position and can reach atop. 

The first women Sagarmatha expiation team comprising Rosha Basnet, Kalpana Maharjan, Deurali Chamling and Rojita Buddhacharya had successfully scaled the summit on last 23 May (Jestha 9) under the leadership of Phurba Tenzing Sherpa who has so far scaled the summit for 13th times. 

According to NTB senior officer Sudhan Subedi, the exhibition of photos taken by women journalists was organized on the occasion of the KIMFF. The photos had vividly given information on geographical situation, environmental effects and activities around the Mount Everest, he shared. 

The NTB has been organizing such exhibitions to promote tourism through photos for the past three years. The NTB organizes photo exhibition on first Friday of every English month.
